Îäèí èç îñíîâîïîëîæíèêîâ ãåîãðàôèè ðàñòåíèé. Â îñíîâó
ôëîðèñòè÷åñêîãî ðàéîíèðîâàíèÿ çåìíîãî øàðà (25 ôëîðèñòè÷åñêèõ “öàðñòâ”) ïîëîæèë
íàëè÷èå ýíäåìè÷íûõ âèäîâ, ðîäîâ è ñåìåéñòâ, à òàêæå ïðåîáëàäàíèå îïðåäåëåííûõ
òàêñîíîâ. Êðîìå òîãî, ðàçðàáàòûâàë âîïðîñû ýêîëîãè÷åñêîé áèîãåîãðàôèè
ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè: çàâèñèìîñòü ðàñïðîñòðàíåíèÿ ðàñòåíèé îò êëèìàòà è ïî÷âû.
